January is National Blood Donor Month! According to the American Red Cross, there is a 97% chance that someone you know will need a blood transfusion. According to Dr. John Neff, "Forty to 50 percent of all citizens are able give blood, but only four or five actually do.” This means that a small number of donors are providing blood for the nearly 5 million people in the U.S. who receive life-saving blood each year according to the National Library of Medicine. If you are interested but have never given blood, the Mayo Clinic offers a great resource for what to expect and the American Red Cross offers tips to help make the experience positive. Also, check out your nearest donation center.
